DESIGNATIONS OF ORIGIN

In Tarragona, viticulture is ancient and dates back to the Roman Empire. Whithin the archaeological remains of the area were found the mythical amphorae used in ancient times to store and transport wine. In the 1st century AD, from Tarraco, the capital and political center of Hispania, and a leading commercial port, many ships loaded with amphorae filled with wine left for Rome, the capital of the Empire, but also for Gaul, Germany and Britannia.
In our time, the Tarragona DO was created in 1945, initially
to protect liqueur wines, the so-called Tarragona Clásicos. Later, dry and semi-sweet wines began to be protected. The DO Tarragona production area has two zones: the Camp de Tarragona area and Ribera d’Ebre, with a predominance of white grapes (83%) over black (17%). The white wines produced in Camp de Tarragona are very smooth, balanced, aromatic and fruity. In the Ribera d’Ebre area they are more intense in color. Rosé wines are fresh and cherry-colored. Red wines from the Tarragona countryside area are firm and aromatic. Red wines from Ribera d’Ebre harmonize the body and color of the Cariñena and the richness of the Garnacha.
In addition, the geographical proximity to other wine-growing areas such as Priorat, Conca de Barberá or Penedès, makes Mas Boronat an ideal base for enjoying wine tourism.
